I love nurses, and I am extremely grateful that in my work I’ve had the pleasure of getting to serve and speak to the needs of nurses. The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly taken a toll on the nurses of America in more than one way, and I’m happy to do anything I can to help enrich nurses’ lives. In fact, I’ve recently been able to distribute over 10,000 CeraVe skincare goodie bags to nurses all over the country for free, which speaks directly to the needs of nurses’ skin as constant hand washing takes a toll.

While it’s obviously important to meet the physical needs of nurses, another area in which I want to make a difference for nurses is in the realm of the psychological. It’s important to take an active role in managing your mental health, and one of the best ways to do that is to employ gratitude. Here are some helpful resources assembled in one place which could help you get started on your way to becoming a more grateful person.

What is Gratitude?

Gratitude comes from the latin word gratus which means “pleasing or thankful.” You could describe gratitude as a pleasant feeling of appreciation for something outside of monetary value. Practicing regular gratitude contributes to your overall wellness in a big way!

Great Gratitude Resources:

Gratefulness.org

Powered by A Network for Grateful Living, a nonprofit organization, this website is filled with articles, resources, and even poems to inspire you. For instance, I love this post on what gratitude is all about.

Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation

Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation has put together some fantastic gratitude-related content, including this post on the health and wellness benefits of gratitude. I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities presented here to connect with other nurses and participate in challenges. For instance, I recently had the opportunity to help with the “Your Gratitude Is Showing” challenge powered by CeraVe (catch up on this challenge content here.)

Greater Good Science Center

The Greater Good Science Center at Berkeley University studies the psychology, sociology, and neuroscience of well-being, and teaches skills that foster a thriving, resilient, and compassionate society. Their website features great articles on gratitude and a range of other helpful topics. You should have a look at their gratitude quiz here!

Happify

I love, love, love getting Happify’s articles delivered to my email because there is always something genuinely interesting and useful each time. They have an app for your phone which features games and activities designed to develop your brain… plus they have those great articles online to help you understand your own happiness and how to achieve it. Here’s an article about gratitude and it explains how Happify’s content and activities can help you cultivate it.

My Favorite Gratitude App

If you like to keep things digital, I recommend this gratitude app. I use it every morning and it helps keep me on track. Daily quotes and journal prompts in the app can really help you stay in the right mental space!

Shift Change: Nurse Essentials Facebook Group

My friends at CeraVe have put together a Facebook group that you should be a part of! Don’t miss this incredible opportunity for nurses just like you to come together, share experiences, be inspired and feel empowered – personally and professionally. You’ll need to request to join the group since we value your privacy.
